FIRE ACADEMY
We are committed to training those who qualify to become part of our team and serve the citizens of our community. All non-certified candidates must attend our fire academy where they will complete requirements set forth by NFPA 1001 to obtain a Firefighter II certification. Cadets must successfully complete classroom material, demonstrate skills proficiency, and pass a final written exam.

This is not a Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) course. Graduates of this program will obtain a Firefighter II certification from the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshalls Assn of Texas (SFFMA). However, SFFMA provides a path for FFII certificate holders to challenge the TCFP exam. The department can assist you in this process.
Physical Ability Test
Fire Academy candidates are required to complete the Physical Ability Test (PAT) prior to acceptance into the course. The PAT is a sequence of events requiring the candidate to progress along a predetermined path from event to event in a continuous manner. This test was developed to allow the department a means for obtaining trainable candidates who are physically able to perform essential job tasks at fire scenes.
The Firefighter PAT is very strenuous. If you have had a recent illness, surgery or are under medication, verify with your healthcare provider whether it is safe for you to take the test.
